Seminar: Halide Perovskites for Solar Cells, LEDs, Lasers and more – Infos on using Zoom

Using Zoom for lectures - requirements, conditions and rules

Virtual teaching at the university is new for everyone involved, and its success will rely on the efforts of everyone involved. The LMU physics department uses Zoom for the majority of online events. This is a first list of conditions and rules of conduct.

Ongoing adjustments

Please understand that many rules will need to be adjusted based on experience collected during operation.

Technical requirements

Zoom is available for free for Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android. It is also possible to link up by phone. Minimal requirements are video and audio outputs.

Participating in a lecture

After registration via LSF you will receive an invitation link to enter in your Zoom client, and a phone number (just in case). A password might also be provided.

Zoom features

Zoom is primarily a conference software that treats the communication of all participants equally. For the purpose of lectures and tutorials the lecturers will be privileged. Basic features for students include "raising hand", contributions in a chat, and linking up with video and audio. All these features can be unlocked as required by the lecturer.

Usage of data

Lecturers can record lectures and make them available via a LMU restricted link for usage by students. Your feedback will be archived in these recordings if you activate your camera and microphone. By activating your camera or your microphone you implicitly agree with this usage of your data.

Rules of conduct on Zoom

  • The decision in favor of Zoom was made mainly because of its great interactivity.
  • Please use the "raise hand" feature for feedback.
  • The chat is expected to be treated separately, please follow the instructions at the respective lecture.
  • In general, please keep your microphones muted.
  • Post your own content only on request and for lecture-relevant content. "Zoombombing" is a reason for permanent banning from an event.
  • If you consent: let us see you, non-verbal communication is a key element of teaching.

Please note: the lecturer has the possibility and the right to ban participants temporarily or permanently in case of repeated interruptions.
